Dr. Janet Karanja or “Dr. K” is a Board-Certified Adult Psychiatrist, Board-eligible Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of childhood and adult disorders such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, neuropsychiatric disorders, and others. She does this through a comprehensive biopsychosocial evaluation, psychotherapy and medication management. Dr. Karanja comes with a breath of work experiences in various adult and child inpatient units, outpatient specialty clinics, residential schools, addiction clinics and assertive community treatment programs. She enjoys working with families, schools, and other providers to ensure excellent care is being achieved.


Dr. Karanja’s passions include LGBTQIA+ mental health, climate related anxiety/distress, minority mental health, and community-based resilience.

What is Social Thinking Ā®?Ā 

Developing Social Competencies for children in grades 3-5th.

The Social Thinking Ā® Methodology offers evidence-based strategies that help individual competencies, flexible thinking, and social problem-solving skills. Learners can strengthen conversation skills, social connection, executive functioning, perspective taking, self-regulation, and relationship development while gaining a shared Social Thinking Ā® Vocabulary that supports success across settings. Across neurotypes, all students benefit from tools that help them think socially as they navigate both academic and social worlds.Ā
