Parenting in a High Achievement Community

Raising a child in Clarksville often means navigating a school system with some of the highest academic standards in Maryland, alongside a community where achievement is visible and constantly compared. Parents coming to Collaborative Counseling Center from Clarksville frequently describe pressure to keep their child’s struggles quiet, or uncertainty about how to support a child who is falling behind peers in a community where most families appear to be thriving. Parent coaching gives parents a place to work through that specific tension, not just general parenting advice.

What Parent Coaching Addresses

  • Managing a child’s difficult or disruptive behavior
  • Supporting a child through anxiety, ADHD or emotional regulation challenges
  • Navigating a child’s diagnosis or treatment plan as a parent
  • Building consistent routines and responses across the household
  • Reducing conflict between parents around a child’s needs

Why Parent Coaching, Separate From a Child's Own Therapy

A child’s individual therapy focuses on the child. Parent coaching focuses on the parent, giving them tools, strategies and support to reinforce what is happening in the child’s treatment at home, and to manage the day to day reality of raising a child with additional needs in a demanding school environment.

Coordination With Your Child's Care

When a child is also seeing a psychiatrist or therapist at Collaborative Counseling Center, the parent coach can coordinate directly with those providers, so the guidance parents receive lines up with what is happening in the child’s own treatment.
